How did it all get started?

Sara and Ian have known each other for over a decade, and throughout that time, they have played many board and video games and have read many books and stories.

Sara (apparently) has the inability to read books without telling Ian everything about them from the moment she opens the front cover until she finally closes the back cover. Even then, sometimes, she keeps talking about her books. Ian, on the other hand, suffers no such ailment and simply reads without feeling the need to talk about it. He might be an alien or something— we’re looking into it!

One fateful summer day, while Sara was at work, one of her coworkers mentioned that they were reading a particular fantasy series that has been all the rage for the last year and a half. Said coworker urged Sara to read at least the first two books, because they needed someone to talk to about the books. And while they did give Sara the warning that she “may not like it” because she’s “a reader,” Sara did her best ang gave it a try.

Let’s just say that their prediction was correct, and Sara did not like the series. But true to her word, she talked about the books with her coworker. And true to her nature, Sara also talked to Ian about the books, who also disliked them and came up with several witticisms and Ianisms on the subject. At one point, after sharing a particularly sharp criticism of the writing in the book, Sara’s coworker was doubled over in laughter, and said, “Even though you don’t like the book, I could listen to you two talk about it all day long!”

And we thought … Why not? Let’s give it a shot!

So here we are. :)

Do you read any other books that don’t get discussed on the pod?

Yes, there are some times when Sara is reading multiple books at once, and while it would be awesome to discuss all of them on the pod, it’s not always feasible to dedicate full seasons to every single thing she reads.

Additionally, Ian is also an avid reader, but he has the annoying habit of not talking to Sara about his reads. He also tends toward manga, manhwas, and graphic novels, which are harder to discuss in the current podcast format.

We’re hoping to start doing more episodes that branch out from the focus on one book at a time, but for now, if you want to keep up with all of Sara’s readings (both on and off the pod), you can check out our ratings, reviews, and more on Story Graph at https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/aposas or message us on any of our social media platforms (linked at the bottom of this page).
